The district hospital in Uttarkashi has successfully provided a new lease of life to two critically ill patients, 93-year-old Kedar Singh and 70-year-old Puran Singh, by treating them with state-of-the-art medical equipment. According to the officials, Kedar Singh was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) suffering from respiratory failure and lung inflammation.

The doctors successfully treated him to achieve significant health improvements. Similarly, the life of Puran Singh, who had been on an artificial respiratory system (intubation) for five consecutive days, was also saved by the ICU team. The officials said the ICU at the district hospital has set a new standard in the medical field. The ICU team overcame complex challenges to save the lives of these two patients.

The hospital’s Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) Dr PS Pokhriyal informed that the ICU team succeeded in its efforts despite the limited resources in a mountainous district like Uttarkashi. He also highlighted that 99 per cent of patients admitted in the ICU are treated free of charge under the Atal Ayushman Yojana, ensuring high-level medical services are accessible to economically disadvantaged individuals. This scheme provides all necessary facilities to patients at no cost, resulting in immense benefits for the community.
