Wearing uniforms now mandatory for MCD sanitation staff, supervisors

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE / Dehradun
The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) chief municipal health officer Dr Anand Shukla stated that it has made uniforms mandatory for sanitation workers and plans to introduce a separate uniform for sanitation supervisors as part of efforts to improve identification of field staff.
The municipal commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey has ordered sanitation workers to wear uniforms while on duty. Shukla said that the corporation is also in the process of providing uniforms to sanitation supervisors, who regularly monitor cleanliness work and waste collection operations across the city.
He added that residents often find it difficult to identify sanitation personnel in the field. A uniform dress code will make sanitation workers and supervisors more easily recognisable and help streamline communication between citizens and MCD staff.
The decision comes at a time when the corporation is expanding its sanitation monitoring system. Earlier this month, MCD appointed eight sanitation inspectors and a chief sanitation inspector to strengthen supervision of cleanliness work across the city’s 100 wards.
Shukla said that supervisors will be expected to wear uniforms during inspections and while reviewing sanitation-related work in different parts of the city. The corporation has instructed its sanitation wing to ensure compliance with the directive.
He said that further guidelines regarding the rollout of uniforms for supervisors and monitoring of the policy will be issued in the coming days.
