The newly appointed director of the Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) department, Ranjana Rajguru has underlined the importance of implementing departmental schemes with discipline and sensitivity. In a recent review meeting, Rajguru outlined several key directives aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the department’s operations.

During the meeting, she emphasised that, in line with the instructions from the chief secretary, all personnel must register their attendance online on time. She also instructed that files must be thoroughly reviewed before being submitted to higher authorities. Further, Rajguru highlighted the necessity to cater to the public effectively, stating that officials should listen to the concerns of individuals visiting headquarters and take prompt action in accordance with established rules.

In a bid to improve the quality of services at Anganwadi centres, Rajguru mandated that district programme officers ensure the distribution of high-quality supplementary nutrition and other materials. She warned that any instance of poor-quality distribution would result in strict repercussions for the responsible officer.

Additionally, she said that district magistrates and Chief Development Officers (CDO) to facilitate regular monitoring and to organise video conferences that would ensure all eligible pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children are registered at Anganwadi centres. This registration is crucial for tracking nutrition, health and access to various services.

Rajguru urged that monitoring should also include the immediate completion of the ongoing Anganwadi selection process, ensuring that newly selected workers are actively involved in departmental activities. She also called for enhanced quality control through inspections of the construction work for Anganwadi centres.

Additionally, Rajguru highlighted the importance of re-enrolling dropout girls identified under the adolescent girls’ scheme in schools and she encouraged leveraging Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives for the upliftment of Anganwadi centres.
