16K homes to be built in State for EWS by March

The State government will build about 16,000 economical homes for the economically weaker section by March next year. The Uttarakhand Avas Evam Vikas Parishad (UKAVP) and the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) are in the process of constructing these residential units for families from the economically weaker section of society.
According to the officials, the UKAVP is working for the first time on its residential project. The council is preparing 15 projects along with private investors. These projects will include 12,856 homes while development authorities concerned are building five residential projects comprising 3,104 homes.
The Housing additional commissioner PC Dumka said that 1,760 homes have been built with private participation and handed over to the beneficiaries so far. In addition to this, the allotment of 14,365 homes has also been done. The government has set a target of completing all the remaining residential projects by March 2025.
According to officials, the residential project for EWS involves the private investor constructing a home comprising two rooms, a kitchen and a toilet for Rs six lakh. Out of this amount, Rs 3.5 lakh is provided under various schemes of the Central and State governments. As a result, the beneficiary can avail easy home loan to procure the home for Rs 2.5 lakh. The entire cost of the land and construction is borne by the private investor. The families without a home and with an annual income of less than Rs three lakh will be eligible under this scheme. Further, the family must also be a resident of the State since before June 15, 2015.
The MDDA is also working on three housing projects. These comprise 224 residential units in Transport Nagar and 240 flats in Tarla Amwala, which have been built while 240 flats in Dhaulas will be ready by March 2025. The MDDA vice chairman Banshidhar Tiwari informed that the selection of beneficiaries under these projects has been done in a transparent manner. The beneficiaries will be presented with the keys to their new homes at the designated time, he added.Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the PM Awas Yojana has been implemented with a focus on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s target of Antyodaya. Families without homes are being provided proper homes under this scheme. The housing development authority has played a crucial role in achieving this target, the CM said.
