Ensure safety of unused ballot papers in Panchayat polls: Mahara to SEC

 The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has demanded that the unused ballot papers printed for the three tier Panchayat elections should be kept in safe custody.

 In a letter directed to the State Election Commissioner, the PCC president said the voting for the two phased Panchayat elections in 12 districts of the State was held on July 24 and 28 and the counting will be held on July 31.

He said that it is general practice that the State Election Commission prints more than required number of ballot papers and now such extra ballot papers are now with the returning officers of blocks and election officers in -charges in districts. Mahara said all the additional ballot papers should be kept in double lock in presence of the representatives of all political parties.

He said that details of total ballot papers printed, given to polling parties and remaining ballot papers should be provided to all the political parties.  He added that strict security of the ballot papers and boxes should also be ensured.

Mahara said that the SEC should issue orders to all district magistrates and returning officers to ensure implementation of the above mentioned points for fair and transparent three tier Panchayat elections.
