The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has claimed that though Congress has ruled the State for 10 years as against the 15-year rule of the BJP, Uttarakhand achieved remarkable growth in all developmental parameters under Congress while BJP’s rule remained marred with instability and corruption.
Interacting with the media persons at the headquarters of the State Congress on Friday, the PCC president said that it was the Congress government in 2002 which increased the annual plan of the State from Rs 900 crore to Rs 5,000 crore in the very first year. He said that the investor summits were organised during the tenure of CM Trivendra Singh Rawat and Pushkar Singh Dhami by spending huge amounts of money but it was during the ND Tiwari government that the thousands of industrial units were set up in the State. He said that SIIDCUL was set up by the Congress government and due to the industrial policy of the Tiwari government more than 2,000 industrial units were established in industrial townships of the State, which not only strengthened the economy of the State but also provided direct and indirect employment to lakhs of people. Similarly, a network of roads, IT parks and other infrastructure was established during this period. Hydropower projects were set up and the State achieved remarkable growth in power and tourism sectors. Major work was done in agriculture and horticulture. Mahara said that the pro-industry approach changed when the BJP came to power in 2007. He said that in the Education department alone more than 65,000 people were appointed and strong land law was enacted by the Congress government. Mahara said that the biggest achievement of the Congress government in its second term was that it brought Gairsain back into focus. The Congress government held an Assembly session in Gairsain in a tent and then built an Assembly building, MLA hostel and other infrastructure in Bharadisain. Mahara said that the last two governments (2017 and 2022) remained aloof from the issues of public interests and engaged in rampant corruption. The PCC president also attacked the government for its failure to prepare any roadmap of development of the State in the recent special session of Vidhan Sabha.
