66,000 people register for voluntary blood donation in Uttarakhand

Over 66,000 people in Uttarakhand have registered for voluntary blood donation through the e-Raktkosh portal and more than 8,000 units of blood have been collected in blood donation camps across the State, the Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat said. He stated that the campaign began on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday September 17 under the Swastha Naari, Sashakta Parivar initiative. He said that blood donation and health camps are being organised at government medical colleges, district and sub-district hospitals, community hospitals, primary health centres and Ayushman Arogya Kendras across the State.

Rawat informed that 66,878 people have registered on the e-Raktkosh portal, including 3,891 from Almora, 525 from Bageshwar, 999 from Chamoli, 1,686 from Champawat, 6,539 from Dehradun, 6,004 from Haridwar, 6,026 from Nainital, 9,006 from Pauri, 1,383 from Pithoragarh, 1,418 from Rudraprayag, 15,901 from Tehri, 11,370 from Udham Singh Nagar and 2,130 from Uttarkashi. Besides this, 8,779 people have donated blood in the camps so far.

The minister said the State currently operates 67 blood banks with a storage capacity of 39,750 units. He added that the blood donation camps help ensure blood availability and promote public awareness about health. He informed that during the two-week campaign, health camps provided free tests for anaemia, cancer, hypertension, diabetes, tuberculosis and other non-communicable diseases.

Prenatal check-ups for pregnant women and registration for Ni-Shay Mitra were also conducted. Rawat said that the campaign has benefited thousands of people and supported the goal of promoting women’s health and family well-being across the State.
