State to resolve water issues by 2047: Maharaj

Irrigation minister Satpal Maharaj said that the State government has planned to ensure resolution of issues in all water related sectors in the State by 2047 through integrated use and planning of available water resources. He said this while speaking at the meeting of State ministers organised by the Ministry of Jal Shakti at Bhopal on Thursday.
Representing chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, he said that the process resumption of construction of the Lakhwad dam project on the Yamuna river is under way in the State. Work on another project on the Yamuna- the Kishau dam project is also underway which will benefit five other states in the Yamuna basin with irrigation and drinking water. Regarding the other water related works in the State, the minister said that the rejuvenation of 2,844 water bodies has been completed while the rejuvenation of 1,318 water bodies is being undertaken at present. A total of 25,765 watershed development works have been completed while 12,518 are under progress, he said. Considering the geography of Uttarakhand, it is necessary that the available water resources are used with good and efficient planning while also ensuring the full exploitation of available hydro power generation potential.
