In latest news from Uttarakhand, as part of the Nainital district administration’s bid to curb the overcharging trend in the vegetable markets, the Nainital district supply inspector Surendra Singh Bisht while posing as a customer visited vegetable shops in the Mallital area of Nainital town and asked the vegetable sellers about the prices of the vegetables they were selling to their customers. The wholesalers of vegetables told him about the current prices at which they are selling vegetables to the retail sellers. Notably, a monitoring committee has been formed on the order of the district magistrate Vandana Singh to curb the profiteering trend in the vegetable markets. Moreover, pricelist of the vegetables as firmed up by the district administration is being sent on the WhatsApp numbers of the sellers in the morning daily.
The supply inspector said that during inspection, while some sellers were found selling vegetables at prices lower that what were stipulated by the administration most of them were found selling vegetables at higher prices than the stipulated ones. Bisht sternly told the vegetable traders that they must sell the vegetables at the administration-stipulated prices and additionally, they must display the stipulated prices of the vegetables at the main parts of their shops. Further, he gave stern warning to both the wholesalers and retailers that if any of them is found overcharging the customers disregarding the administration-stipulated price list, they will be booked under the Prevention of Blackmarketing and Maintenance of Supplies of Essential Commodities Act, 1980.
