Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ravinder Jugran has said that the apathetic and insensitive attitude of HNB Garhwal central university is responsible for alarmingly less admissions in the colleges under it this year. He said that the term ‘ghost village’ is common in Uttarakhand but it appears that the colleges of the State will turn to ‘ghost colleges’ due to the attitude of the university. He said that admissions in only 20 per cent of seats in the graduate and PG classes in the campus colleges and aided colleges of HNB central university have occurred this year. Jugran said that the Education ministry had given a written directive to the University Grants Commission (UGC) to exempt the HNB Garhwal and central universities of North East from the compulsion of Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for admissions.
The BJP leader said that all central universities of north eastern States took note of this letter and took the benefit of this exemption. The universities of the north east States gave admissions in graduate courses on the basis of a merit list made on the marks obtained in class XII board examinations. Jugran said that the obstinate and insensitive attitude of the vice chancellor of the HNB Garhwal central university is responsible for the plight of the students. In absence of admissions the students are suffering and they have hit the road.
He said that MKP PG College is one of the most reputed colleges of north India located in the provisional State capital Dehradun. Jugran claimed that admissions to only five per cent of the seats have been done in the academic session 2023-24 till date. He said that there are a total of 995 seats in the BA course of the college but this year only 46 admissions have taken place. Similarly only nine students in BSc and 19 in B Com have taken admissions against 120 and 300 seats respectively.
The BJP leader demanded that the admissions in the colleges should be done on the basis of merit list of class XII marks failing which he will approach the Uttarakhand High Court.
