Authorities continue anti-dengue campaign in Doon

The teams of the Dehradun district administration and the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) continued the anti-dengue campaign on Sunday under which they penalised people for violations of guidelines. The teams conducted inspections in several wards of the city. Besides this, they also carried out fogging in Ajabpur Khurd, Ajabpur Kalan, Dharampur, GMS Road, Yamuna Colony, Kargi, Sahastradhara Road, Rajpur Road, Chakrata Road, Mehuwala, Mothorowala and Nehrugram, among other areas, said the officials. The teams penalised about 20 people including vegetable vendors, a garage owner and a plant nursery owner on finding aedes mosquito larvae in their premises and imposed about Rs 18,000 challan in total. The team also cleaned the stagnant water and sprayed larvicide for source reduction. The teams used loudspeakers to raise awareness among locals about the spread of dengue. The officials said that the teams have warned the citizens to take necessary precautions to ensure water does not accumulate inside or outside their houses to prevent breeding of dengue causing mosquitoes. The teams warned them of legal action if they find larvae on their premises again. The officials said that the Dehradun municipal commissioner Manuj Goyal has divided 100 wards into 12 sectors to properly carry out works like fogging and spraying of larvicide efficiently under the supervision of the respective sector officers. The sanitation team under these sector officers carries out a drive daily as part of the anti-dengue campaign, especially in vulnerable areas. Besides this, Goyal has also issued an order to all educational institutes to clean their premises as a precautionary measure against dengue. He has asked the health section to take action against educational institutes if they find larvae on their premises. He said that MCD and the bodies concerned are putting all efforts into preventing the spread of dengue and public participation of all sorts is important to make this campaign successful.
