Artificial Intelligence would provide relief from the worsening traffic jams caused by the increasing pressure of tourist vehicles in the city, stated the police department, adding that they are now developing a comprehensive plan for this. “AI cameras will be installed at the entry points and parking areas of the district’s tourist destinations for monitoring,” said the superintendent of police (SP) Jagdish Chandra after meeting representatives of the service provider’s company to discuss traffic control.
He stated that the plan would be presented to higher officials, as well as the administration and government, and then a future action plan would be formulated.
It should be noted that not only in Nainital, but also in other tourist destinations, including Kainchi Dham, Bhimtal and Ramnagar, traffic jams are becoming increasingly severe due to the increasing pressure of tourist vehicles. Consequently, a journey that should take only a few minutes is taking hours.
During the meeting, the company representatives presented a presentation on installing surveillance systems at tourist destinations using AI cameras. The company representatives claimed that AI cameras would monitor entry points and parking areas in cities and they would gather accurate data on vehicles entering and exiting. By coordinating with the hotel association and other tourism businesses, real-time monitoring of tourists through an app would be made public, which would significantly benefit traffic management.“If approved at the administrative and government levels, efforts will be made to implement it soon,” SP said.
