Recovery and Reconstruction plan of Rs 1658.17 Cr approved for Joshimath

The high- level committee formed under the chairmanship of the Union Home minister and Cooperation minister Amit Shah has approved the Recovery and Reconstruction (R&R) plan worth Rs 1658.17 crore for subsidence affected Joshimath town in Chamoli district. Under this R&R Plan, Central assistance to the tune of Rs 1079.96 crore would be provided from the Recovery and Reconstruction window of the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).
The State government, on its part, would provide Rs 126.41 crore from its State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) towards relief assistance besides providing further Rs 451.80 crore from the State budget that includes land acquisition cost of Rs 91.82 crore for resettlement. Joshimath in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand has been affected by landslides and land subsidence. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union home minister Amit Shah for the financial approval.
Taking note of the magnitude of the land subsidence crisis involving the district, the Centre vowed to extend all necessary technical and logistical support to the State government in order to help the latter address it appropriately. Directed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, all technical agencies under the guidance of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) were put into action and they helped the State government in preparing the recovery plan for Joshimath expeditiously.
The State government officers privy to the details said that the recovery plan for Joshimath would be implemented in three years based on Build Back Better (BBB) principles and sustainability initiatives following which Joshimath would emerge as an excellent example of ecological sustainability.
