Youths disappointed with interim budget

The young adults of Dehradun have opined that the interim budget 2024-25 should have included provisions for the allocation of more employment opportunities and a decrease in the interest rate on student loans for higher studies. In the budget, Union Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasised the important role of farmers, women, youths and the underprivileged in shaping the Prime Minister’s vision. Considering this, the young adults are concerned about the lack of opportunities for the upliftment of young adults in the interim budget.
A student of class XII Saksham Bhardwaja appreciated the efforts of the government to allocate funds towards the upliftment of youths. However, he said that he expected the budget to include more comprehensive measures to address the challenges faced by students in higher education, such as decreasing the rate of interest for student loans. He added that the budget must have also included funding specifically directed towards scholarships, research grants and internship programmes.
College student Himanshu Nainwal said that he has mixed feelings about the budget. While the Finance minister emphasised that the budget would be more dedicated to the poor, women, youths and farmers, he felt that it did not include sufficient employment opportunities, especially in government jobs. The next budget after the Lok Sabha election would prioritise both economic growth and social welfare, he opined.
“The budget did not focus enough on job creation and upskilling initiatives. I expected the budget would include incentives for companies to hire and train young talents,” said an employee working in a software company, Ranvijay Thakur.
