On the arrest of the assistant commissioner of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) department Shashikant Dubey on Tuesday while accepting a bribe, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the State government will not spare those who demand bribes from the public to carry out their duties. The government has given a free hand to investigation agencies to ensure all such corrupt people are put behind bars, he said.
In the last few days, the authorities have arrested various officers and employees of the Irrigation department, Forest department, Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited and Food Supply department on charges of corruption. Dhami said that the government is working with its resolve of zero tolerance on corruption and made it clear that those who demand commission in departments and seek bribes in public interest works will not be spared under any circumstances. The officer or employee of any level will not be allowed to indulge in corruption.
All government employees and officers will have to work with complete honesty and transparency or else, strict action will be taken against them. On the CM’s instructions, the administration earlier issued a toll free number 1064 to report corruption related complaints. If any employee or officer of any government department asks for any kind of bribe from the public, they can complain about it by calling this number. The authorities will keep the name and contact number of the complainant confidential.
Dhami said that the authorities have been asked to take all possible measures to take strict action against corrupt employees in departments. The government’s action against corruption will continue further in the State, he added.
