Lab on Wheels launched for four districts

Vehicles under the Lab on Wheels programme were flagged off by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday. In the first phase, these mobile labs were launched for Almora, Champawat, Dehradun and Pauri districts to popularise science and science communication activities in rural areas, supplement school science and mathematics education, develop curiosity, interest and motivation of students to learn science and develop interest in science and mathematics and to enable professional development of science and mathematics teachers. During the launch event, Dhami stated that a strong STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education programme for the innovation ecosystem is very important for creating an innovative society which facilitates the birth of new ideas and also provides platforms for the successful exploitation of these ideas. He also interacted with school children on the occasion.
Science and Technology secretary Nitesh Kumar Jha stated that the hands on experiential learning and practical learning are essential for a good career. Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST) director general Durgesh Pant said that science and technology are essential components for the progress of any State. As the progress of the State is guided by growth in its science and technology sector, there is a pressing need to strengthen STEM education by creating additional infrastructure for hands-on and engaging activities in non-formal learning environment for experiential learning which has been focused upon in the National Education Policy, he said. School Education director general Banshidhar Tiwari assured all possible help from the Education department in the initiative.
