Kumaon commissioner Deepak Rawat made a surprise visit to the dialysis centre of the Soban Singh Jeena base hospital here on Friday after receiving complaints about the centre operated in public private partnership mode. Expressing dissatisfaction at the absence of the doctor, he directed the chief superintendent to regularly monitor the functioning of the centre. Rawat also directed that CCTV camera footage of the past one month should be provided to ascertain when the doctors are visiting the centre. He found that 25 beds are used for patients undergoing dialysis but that the condition of the beds was not satisfactory. The centre operator was directed to improve the condition of beds within a week while the chief superintendent was directed to monitor and submit a report. At present, about 70 persons undergo dialysis at the centre daily. The commissioner also directed the chief superintendent to ensure that information is provided in writing about any gaps in the dialysis centre to the Health director general and administrative officials so that necessary improvements can be made. During the inspection of the base hospital, watchmen were not present at any of the three gates. They arrived late after being called and were not dressed as per the set standards. Objecting to this, Rawat directed the chief superintendent to regularly monitor the security guards and check their dress code. Near the hospital gate, he found a shop encroaching on the drain and the gate, following which he directed that the tin shed be removed by 5 PM the same day. Finding vehicles parked on the road near the KMVN parking, he directed the police circle officer to impose challans on such vehicle users. Haldwani municipal commissioner Vishal Mishra, city magistrate AP Vajpai and other officials were also present during the commissioner’s inspection.
