Former chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has advised the Pushkar Singh Dhami government to follow its ‘Dharma’ in taking a decision on the disproportionate assets case on the cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi. In response to a question by the media persons on the issue on Wednesday, the former CM evoked Bhagwad Geeta and said that in ‘Dharma Yudha’ one should rise above the personal interests (Apana and Paraya) to take the appropriate action.
The statement of the former CM laced with the philosophy is being viewed as an advice to the Dhami government that it should act as per the law in taking action on one of its cabinet ministers.
The problems of the cabinet minister Joshi increased when a special vigilance court set October 19 as the date of next hearing in a disproportionate asset case against the minister. The court is waiting for the decision of the State Cabinet on the issue.
It is pertinent to mention here that the advocate Vikesh Negi had accused Ganesh Joshi for having assets which are disproportionate to his known sources of income. Negi has made the affidavit filed by Joshi with election commission at the time of filing his nomination papers from Mussoorie Assembly constituency in the year 2022 as the basis of his claim.
Acting on the application of Negi, the court had asked the Vigilance department to submit a report. In a hearing held on Monday, the Vigilance submitted its report along with a letter of department of Personnel in the court of Special Judge Vigilance Manish Mishra. In the letter the department of Personnel had asked the secretary, council of ministers (Gopan) to examine the case and act accordingly. As per the provisions of the Anti Corruption Act, it is mandatory to wait for a period of three months for the decision of Cabinet for registering FIR in such cases. Since the letter was sent to the cabinet on July 8, the three month period is ending on October 8. Keeping this in mind the court has set October 19 as the date of its next hearing in the case.
