The Municipal Corporation of Haridwar (MCH) intensified its anti-encroachment efforts on Monday, as part of a pre-Deepawali initiative to clear public spaces and ease congestion.
Acting on the orders of municipal commissioner Varun Chaudhary, the operation targeted encroachments from Devpura Chowk to the bus stand and Shiv Murti, the officials said. The drive resulted in the seizure of various illegally occupied items and penalties amounting to Rs 3,200 imposed on eight individuals for encroachment violations.
MCH officials emphasised that this drive is part of ongoing efforts to prepare the city for the upcoming festive season, ensuring safer and smoother movement for residents and visitors. The corporation issued stern warnings against future encroachments, stating that strict legal action will be taken against repeat offenders.
The commissioner also affirmed the corporation’s commitment to maintaining public order and keeping city spaces free from unauthorised encroachments, with the campaign set to continue in the days leading up to Deepawali and after that as well.
