CM Dhami specially abled on International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami handed over State level prizes to 89 employees, sportspersons and self employed persons with disabilities on the occasion of the International day of persons with disabilities on Tuesday.

In the programme, the CM announced that special camps will be organised in the districts in which free equipment and aids would be provided. He also declared that free online coaching for civil services examination will be provided to specially abled.

Congratulating the award winners, the CM said that their positive energy and enthusiasm is an inspiration for everyone. “Today we are felicitating our leaders who have not only changed their lives with their self confidence, perseverance and valor but also have changed the outlook of the society towards specially abled,’’ he said.

 The CM said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi many works are being done for the specially abled in the country.  He said that the BJP government has implemented ‘Rights of persons with disabilities act -2016’ in which the types of disabilities have been increased to 21 from seven. This has brought a positive change in the lives of such people. The CM claimed that the State government is making efforts to increase facilities for people with disabilities.  He said that special care is made to ensure that new hospitals, bus depots and other buildings have the necessary facilities for specially abled. 

The CM said that the State government is giving five types of different pensions to people with disabilities and there are about one lakh beneficiaries of these pensions. He said that a sum of Rs 25,000 is being provided to the persons with disabilities on their marriage. Scholarships are also given to the specially abled students from classes I to VIII and their parents. The CM said that the State government is working to make the people with disabilities empowered and self reliant.  Training centres at Tehri, Nainital and Pithoragarh are giving free training of printing press, sewing and others to the specially abled. The State government has set up district disability rehabilitation centres in every district and has set up a ‘ Divyang Salahkar Board’ under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act -2016’.
