The high-decibel campaign-dubbed as one of the fiercest -for the high-stake electoral battle for Delhi is ending at 5 PM today. With this will start the mandatory silence period before the polling on February 5. The votes to be polled will be taken up for counting on February 8.
The final day of the campaigning remains high-octane too with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-desperate to snatch power from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)- staging as many as 22 roadshows and rallies across the State. The AAP is also showing up a brave front, claiming that to win the third straight term is going to be a cakewalk for it, given the people’s support for its free welfare schemes and anger against the authoritarian and communal BJP.
The Congress which remains in the wilderness after ruling the State for three consecutive terms under the leadership of late Sheila Dikshit till 2013 is pulling out all the stops to emerge as a power to reckon with in this election by fighting both the BJP and AAP. Significantly, the grand old party of India ended up drawing a blank in the last two elections.
