The governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh has said that collective efforts are required for TB elimination. He said that this disease can be completely eradicated through timely testing and treatment.
He was addressing a TB screening camp organized at the Raj Bhawan under the ‘100 day TB elimination campaign” on Friday. The camp was held under the aegis of national health mission, Uttarakhand with the objective of promoting the prevention and awareness of Tuberculosis (TB) in the State.
In his address, the governor appealed to all employees and citizens to take active part in the TB free India campaign and get their health checkups done from time to time. In the camp 73 officers, employees and their family members were screened for TB.
The health department experts gave information about the symptoms, prevention and treatment of TB in the camp. “The main objective of the 100-day TB elimination campaign is to strengthen diagnostic and treatment services especially for the most vulnerable groups. These include people above 60 years of age, people suffering from co-morbidities like diabetes, HIV and malnutrition,’’ an officer of the department said.
