The Election Commission of India (ECI) has served notices to six political parties of the State who are inactive from the last six years.
All these parties are registered as unrecognised political parties (RUPP) with the ECI. The ECI has directed these parties to reply to the notice till 5 PM on July 21.
As per the ECI, these parties have not taken part in any election in the last six years and their offices do not exist.
There are 42 registered unrecognised political parties in the State and among them there are many such parties which do not fulfill the necessary criteria of being RUPP. In this regard the ECI has identified six such parties. A final decision on delisting of these parties will be taken by the commission.
It is pertinent to mention here that the registration of the political parties is done by the ECI under the section 29 (A ) of the Representation of Peoples Act 1951.
These six parties served notices on Monday are Bharatiya Jankranti Party 12/17 Chukkhuwala, Dehradun, Hamari Janmanch Party 1/12 New Chukkuwala Dehradun, Maidani Kranti Dal, Masjid wali Gali Majra, Dehradun, Praja Mandal Party, Barthwal Niwas Sheetla Mata Mandir Marg, Lower Bhaktiyana, Srinagar, Pauri, Rashtriya Gram Vikas Party, 62, Civil Lines, Roorkee Haridwar and Rashtriya Jan Sahaya Dal 112, New Connaught Place, Dehradun.
