The issue of Gairsain seems to have divided the Congress party in Uttarakhand. While the official stand of the party is that Gairsain which at present is the summer capital should be made the permanent capital of the State. On Tuesday the Congress MLA from Badrinath Lakhpat Butola had emphatically demanded that Gairsain should be made the permanent capital of the State to bridge the divide between the mountainous and plain areas of the State. In contrast the Congress MLA from Kichha, Tilak Raj Behed strongly advocated for Dehradun as permanent capital of the State in Vidhan Sabha on Wednesday. He said that the State government should improve roads and create infrastructure in Gairsain which is the summer capital of the State. Behed however added that Dehradun should be the permanent capital of the State.
