USCW seeks strict action in Rishikesh murder case

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) chairwoman Kusum Kandwal asked the police to take strict action following the alleged murder of an AIIMS Rishikesh woman employee at her home. According to sources, Preeti Rawat, a 32-year-old contract employee at AIIMS Rishikesh, was shot dead in her home by a man who entered without permission. The incident occurred at about 9:30 PM on Saturday.

Taking cognisance of the matter, Kandwal phoned the Rishikesh Kotwali inspector-in-charge Kailash Chandra Bhatt to seek details of the case. She said that the information revealed that the incident was allegedly linked to a one-sided love affair, during which the accused had allegedly pressurised Rawat- a divorcee herself- to marry him. Following his divorce from his wife, he intensified his demands. When Rawat refused to marry him and resisted his advances, he allegedly committed this crime and fled the scene.

Given the seriousness of the case, Kandwal spoke with the Rishikesh superintendent of police to seek updates on the investigation’s progress. She has directed police teams to intensify their efforts to apprehend the accused and ensure that the victim’s family receives swift justice.

Kandwal also said that the police have told her that evidence had been collected from the crime scene and that several police teams are actively conducting raids at possible hideouts in search of the absconding suspect. He is expected to be arrested soon.
