The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) officials said on Thursday that the property tax collection drive in the city has gained momentum with total collections crossing Rs 52 crore so far. The MCD has set a target of 75 crores in property tax for the current financial year.  Authorities have been utilising a combination of online and offline methods to ensure broader coverage and improved compliance among residents.

MCD tax superintendent Rahul Kainthola said that the tax collection is being carried out through the digital platform as well as door-to-door visits. Special teams have been deployed to reach households with pending dues and collect payments on the spot. During these visits, the officials are also updating residents’ mobile numbers to streamline future communication regarding bills and updates. He said that while WhatsApp is being used to send tax bills and reminders, SMS alerts are also being issued to residents who are not on the platform, ensuring inclusivity in the communication process.

To further improve efficiency, the department has organised special drives and camps in recent months to boost revenue collection and enhance data accuracy. As the month-end deadline for the property tax approaches, only 11-days remain for residents to make payments. Residents who are not receiving their bills have been advised to visit the MCD office and update their details to avoid penalties.

Meanwhile, notices are being issued to defaulters, particularly those with substantial outstanding dues. The officials have warned that strict action will be taken if payments are not cleared within the stipulated time.
