USCW condemns politics hampering women’s rights

The chairwoman of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) Kusum Kandwal, has strongly condemned the failure to pass significant constitutional amendments related to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam during the special session of Parliament held from April 16 to 18.
She stated that while the Central government is committed to elevating women to the highest levels of policymaking, the negative stance of some political parties undermines the future of millions of Indian women. In Uttarakhand, where 50 per cent reservation for women in Panchayati Raj institutions has transformed society, women are now taking governance and administration to new heights. To doubt their potential in parliament is not only irrational but represents a narrow-minded approach.
She made it clear that the commission will strongly oppose any forces that obstruct the broader interests of women and their political rights. Kandwal said that USCW stands firmly with women in their fight for constitutional rights. She also warned that the women of Uttarakhand are now aware of this situation and view this as an affront to the honour of every daughter of the nation. Political parties that reduce women’s empowerment to mere slogans but retreat when it comes to actual empowerment will have to answer to the women in the future, she added.
