District Health Dept inspects hospital after ICU fire blaze

After an ICU fire at Panacea Hospital near Rispana Bridge in Dehradun, the Health department has started inspecting hospitals across the district and instructed them to remain alert to prevent such incidents.
The chief medical officer of Dehradun, Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma said that following the incident, inspections of hospitals in the district have begun under the Clinical Establishment Act. Under the Act, the inspection covers hospital and doctor registration, service facilities and other parameters. He said a team was recently constituted to inspect private hospitals in the district. The team, formed under the Clinical Establishment Act, carried out surprise inspections at six hospitals.
The team was led by additional CMO Dr Pradeep Rana. Sharma said Doon Medicity Hospital in Kargi, Piles Care Hospital, Ayush Wellness Centre in Jogiwala and Vinayak Health Care Hospital in Subhash Nagar were found operating without registration under the Clinical Establishment Act. These unregistered hospitals were shut down on the spot by the team.
He further informed that Hayat Medical Centre on Shimla Bypass Road and MS Hospital in Nathanpur were asked to submit written explanations as doctors and other staff were absent during inspection. At Paras Hospital and Morpheus IVF Centre on Haridwar Bypass, a doctor was found absent and two staff nurses were working without registration with the Uttarakhand Paramedical Council. The hospital was directed to submit a written explanation, he added.
He informed that hospitals running without registration under the Clinical Establishment Act are being closed. Hospitals with lax staffing and facility standards have also been asked to explain. Further action will be taken as per relevant provisions of the Clinical Establishment Act.
Sharma also said that such hospital inspections will continue in the future.
