The Uttar Pradesh Irrigation department has completed its preparations to deal with the monsoon season and potential flooding. The department has arranged for a 24-hour control room located at Bhimgoda Barrage Colony, which will operate continuously throughout the monsoon season.
Informing this, the executive engineer of the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation department, Vikas Tyagi stated that the department has already undertaken advance planning to effectively deal with any type of disaster. The department is in constant contact with other water projects, including Devprayag, Tehri Dam, Maneri Bhali and Srinagar Dam. Information regarding water levels and water releases is regularly exchanged, ensuring timely relief and rescue preparations in Haridwar and downstream areas, he said, adding that a staff of approximately 100 employees will be deployed at all times during the monsoon season, with various responsibilities. All flood protection works have been completed, and the control room set up at the Bhimgoda Barrage is fully operational.
“The water level and flow of the Ganga are currently normal and there is no need for residents to panic. The information system has been strengthened this time and a large, 24-hour LED screen has been installed on the barrage premises, broadcasting water levels, warnings and other necessary information,” Tyagi added.
Additionally, an alarm system has been installed to protect residents living along the Ganga. In case of any potential danger or warning, this system will sound an alarm throughout the area to alert residents. The department is also raising awareness about this.
“A comprehensive flood management plan has been firmed up in coordination with the Haridwar district administration. The administration and Irrigation department are jointly monitoring the situation so that immediate relief and rescue operations can be initiated, if necessary,” he added.
