A large spiritual gathering brought together an estimated 17,000 devotees in Durban as members and supporters of Chinmaya Mission assembled for a mass recitation of the Hanuman Chalisa, marking one of the mission’s major celebrations in South Africa.

The event was led by Swami Abhedananda, whose address focused on the values of faith, unity and cultural heritage. During his speech, he encouraged devotees to take pride in their spiritual traditions and to promote harmony through service and devotion.

The gathering formed part of the celebrations commemorating the 75th anniversary of Chinmaya Mission, which has expanded its educational, spiritual and social service activities across several countries over the past seven decades.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent a congratulatory message on the occasion, conveying his best wishes to Chinmaya Mission and all participants. In his message, he appreciated the organisation’s contribution to promoting Indian spiritual values, education and community service across the world, and wished success for the commemorative celebrations.

The venue was marked by saffron flags and devotional chanting as thousands of participants joined the collective recitation of the Hanuman Chalisa. Organisers described the event as one of the largest Hindu devotional gatherings held in South Africa in recent years.

Devotees from different parts of South Africa participated in the programme, which also featured devotional music, prayers and cultural presentations.
