Expanding its activities in the cooperative sector, the Uttarakhand Cooperative Federation (UCF) is now going to enter the drinking water industry as well. The construction work of the modern mineral drinking water plant being set up by the federation in Jamalapur in Haridwar is progressing at a rapid pace, said the federation’s senior manager, Tribhuvan Singh Rawat. He further said that he had conducted a site- inspection of the under-construction plant and conducted a detailed review of the construction work, machinery installation and production related preparations on Wednesday, as per the instructions of the managing director, Anand Shukla.
During the inspection, the relevant executing agency and technical officers were instructed to complete all work before the stipulated deadline.
The ‘Himalaya Jal’ brand, being developed by the Uttarakhand State Cooperative Federation, is targeted to be launched on August 15.
Shukla said that they are entering new business areas under the directives of the Cooperative minister, Dhan Singh Rawat. “The project is an important initiative in that direction, aimed not only at providing high-quality drinking water but also at stimulating the state’s economic activities through cooperatives,” he said, adding that the association aims to increase its annual turnover from Rs 500 crore to Rs 1,000 crore. To this end, planned expansion is underway in drinking water, agriculture-based products, food processing and other business sectors.
He further stated that this modern water bottle plant in Haridwar (Jamalpur) would become an important hub for local employment generation. “A large number of local youth will receive direct and indirect employment and self-employment opportunities in various sectors such as production, packaging, quality testing, transportation, marketing and distribution. “This will also strengthen the local economy and, through cooperatives, will energise the resolve for a self-reliant Uttarakhand,” he affirmed.
