Give adequate time to voters in issuance & hearing of notices under SIR: CEO to DMs

The chief electoral officer (CEO) Uttarakhand, BVRC Purushottam has directed the district magistrates (DM) to ensure that the people to whom notices are being issued under the ongoing process of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the State, should be given proper time to receive them. He said that the voters should also be given adequate time for hearing on the notices.

 The CEO held a video conferencing session with all the DMs at the state secretariat on Wednesday in which he reviewed the ongoing process of SIR in the State. 

In the meeting the CEO held an in-depth review of the notices issued to voters and the hearings conducted during the second phase of the SIR campaign. He also analysed the action plan developed for the hearings of all districts. The CEO also directed all DMs to designate nodal officers from relevant departments, including education, revenue and tehsil, to assist electoral registration officers (ERO) and assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs) in document verification. He also directed the DMs to conduct regular field visits to assembly constituencies and conduct reviews of the SIR process. 

During the meeting, it was revealed that 100 per cent of notices have been printed and delivered to the ERO and BLO concerned in all districts. The process of hearing on the notices has also begun.

Notably, notices are being issued to about 19 lakh voters in the State under different types of anomaly. The voters need to respond to the notices with necessary documents.

The additional chief electoral officer Vijay Kumar Jogdande, deputy chief electoral officer Kishan Singh Negi, assistant chief electoral officer Mastu Das and DMs of all the districts were present in the meeting.
