The family of a circle officer (CO) of UP police posted in Ghaziabad allegedly fell ill after consuming a birthday cake at a resort in Dhikuli village. The family alleged that the cake contained fungus and tiny insects. Following the incident, the husband of the CO lodged a written complaint at the Ramnagar police station, seeking action against the resort management. The Food Safety department team also reached the resort and collected samples of the cake and other food items for laboratory testing.
As per the complaint, Monty, a resident of Bihari Colony, Shahdara, Delhi, had come to Ramnagar with his family and relatives to celebrate his birthday. A total of 16 people, including five children aged between two and 10 years, were staying at the resort.
The family had ordered a birthday cake from the resort costing around Rs 2,000. The complainant alleged that shortly after consuming the cake, several members of the family, including the children, started vomiting and complained of illness. Monty further alleged that upon closely examining the cake, he had noticed fungus and tiny insects in it. He immediately informed the resort staff about the matter, but alleged that the issue was not taken seriously.
He also alleged that although he had called the emergency number 112 twice at around 11 PM, the police had not reached the spot. He subsequently went to the Ramnagar police station himself and submitted a written complaint.
Following the complaint, a team from the Food Safety department visited the resort and collected samples of the cake and other food items for testing. The food inspector Aslam Khan said that the team had inspected the cake at the resort and found no visible signs of spoilage during the preliminary inspection.
The Ramnagar police station in-charge, Sushil Kumar said that police have started an investigation based on the written complaint.
Meanwhile, the manager of the resort, Vikram Balwaria said that the resort does not have its own bakery and that the birthday cake had been ordered from an outside vendor.
