Two groups allegedly clashed inside Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital at around 11 PM on Sunday while seeking medical examinations. Recurrence of such incidents raised concerns about the safety and security of patients as well as staff members at the hospital. According to sources, the dispute escalated into fighting with belts and sticks, triggering panic in the hospital premises. The miscreants also allegedly broke chairs and glass panes during the altercation.
Providing further details, the principal medical superintendent Dr Yatendra Singh said that the two groups had arrived at the hospital from Dalanwala while fighting and began to clash again at the hospital premises. “As the fistfight continued, the hospital security guard intervened. Unfortunately, one of them sustained injuries. In response to this incident, the hospital administration has filed a police complaint,” he said.
Queried on the measures taken to enhance security at the hospital, Singh said that there is currently no police post installed within the premises. “To improve safety and security, the hospital administration plans to approach the senior superintendent of police of Dehradun for the establishment of a police post inside the hospital, similar to the one set up at Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) Hospital,” he added.
