Seven people including personnel of the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) were injured after a speeding truck hit their vehicle from behind near the Asharodi check post in Mohabbewala on Tuesday morning. The CCTV footage of the accident has surfaced, showing the truck and bus skidding towards opposite sides of the highway divider after the collision. A man riding a motorcycle was also injured in the accident.
The accident took place around 9 AM. The truck, carrying cement, was coming from the Saharanpur side when the driver allegedly lost control and hit the bus from behind. The impact overturned the bus. A motorcycle was also hit by the truck during the accident. Eight IRB personnel were travelling in the bus at the time. The injured were taken to a hospital by ambulance. The police and rescue teams reached the spot soon after the accident and started relief work.
The latest accident has raised fresh questions about road safety in the Mohabbewala-Asharodi area. The administration has installed rumble strips and more than 50 signboards in the area. A 24-hour task force has also been deployed to prevent accidents. Despite these measures, crashes continue to occur on the stretch.
Local residents said that repeated accidents have created fear among people living and travelling in the area. A truck driver said that drivers unfamiliar with the route can face difficulty because road slopes and turns, particularly in hilly areas, can make it difficult to judge vehicle speed and control heavy trucks when another vehicle suddenly appears.
