The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is now busy mobilising youth in Uttarakhand for its proposed protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on October 10 demanding removal of the chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The state chapter of the party has been urging local youth to join the protest and is also discussing plans to travel to Delhi in groups.

The CJP north zone coordinator Shreshth Singh Khera said that the party is currently focusing on making the Delhi protest successful. “We are currently focusing on the Jantar Mantar protest in Delhi. If it is successful, we will consider holding a similar protest in Uttarakhand. At present, we are mobilising youth and asking them to come to Jantar Mantar and lend support to our ongoing movement,” he said.

The Pioneer learnt that several youngsters from Dehradun and elsewhere in the State are planning to travel to Delhi together to participate in the stir.  A Youth member Gaurav Singh told The Pioneer that they  are planning to go to Jantar Mantar together in a group.

Another youth, Praveen Gangwal said: “We support CJP and will go to Jantar Mantar on October 10 to support the team and demand the removal of Gyanesh Kumar. This fight is not about one person, it is about everyone.”

Notably, the party had given the Uttarakhand government 10 days in September to issue a comprehensive education road map, warning that they would hold a peaceful stir after October 2 if the government failed to act on their demand. It had raised concerns over infrastructure in government schools and sought school-wise details on enrolment, teachers, facilities, reasons for closure, nearby population and the distance to the nearest alternative school.

Khera said that the Uttarakhand stir plan is still on. “We will consider all options once our Delhi protest is over,” he added.
