SCPCR awaits Govt’s approval to set up child data banks
The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) will conduct a survey to collect the data of children in all the districts after the approval of the State Government to form a child data bank in Uttarakhand.
According to the SCPCR chief, Usha Negi, a number could be allotted to a child on his or her birth like Aadhar number which can be linked to every department concerned with child safety and development in order to monitor them properly. This initiative will restrict many child-related crimes too, stated Negi. She informed that the commission has demanded the Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) department to provide Rs one crore to plan the programme and conduct a mass survey to gather necessary details of children across the State. Negi said that she is optimistic that the proposal will soon get the approval of the department which will make Uttarakhand the first state to take such initiative for the protection of children.
