Price rise- Cong to start state-wide agitation

The Uttarakhand Congress would start a state-wide agitation against hike in petroleum products, pulses and cooking oil from July 7 in Uttarakhand. Informing about the programme the Vice President of Uttarakhand Congress Surya Kant Dhasmana said that the people are reeling under the irrational increase in petrol and diesel and hefty hike in the prices of pulses and oil. “ To express the feelings of the people the Uttarakhand Congress has decided to undertake a state-wide agitation from July seven to 17,’’ he said.

Dhasmana informed that the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh has directed that frontal organisations and other cells of the party would organise programmes on the issue of price rise in every Vidhan Sabha and block. For example, the members of women Congress would undertake a protest by beating empty utensils and Thalis in all districts on any one day. Similarly senior party leaders, Member of Parliaments (MP), former MPs, MLAs, former MLAs and office bearers of State, district, Mahanagar Congress would take out 5 km long cycle rallies in the districts to express their protest on increase in the prices of petrol and diesel during the agitation.

Dhasmana said that the party workers would also undertake a signature campaign in all the petrol pumps and distribute pamphlets mentioning comparative accounts of the prices of petroleum products and the international prices of crude in the present regime and the prices during the UPA rule. He said that the party wants the prices of diesel and petrol should be brought under the ambit of GST.
