Reviews Covid, development works & disaster preparedness in region
Chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat inaugurated and unveiled the foundation stones for 24 development works costing more than Rs 109 crore at Kathgodam on Sunday. These included four schemes worth Rs 11 crore which were inaugurated and 20 schemes worth about Rs 97 crore for which the foundation stones were unveiled.
The chief minister then chaired a meeting with officials to review development works and arrangements for Covid-19 and disaster. Rawat directed the officials to regularly tour areas vulnerable to disaster during the monsoon. Blocked roads should be reopened at the earliest and swift rescue and relief works should be ensured in case of any type of disaster. He directed drinking water and electricity department officials to start storing equipment or materials in distant and rural areas so that the supply of electricity and drinking water can be maintained by ensuring swift restoration in case of disruption during the rains.Reviewing the Covid-19 situation, the chief minister directed officials to ensure that all preparations for the possible third wave are completed now. All necessary arrangements should be ensured in paediatric wards in hospitals in addition to facilitating oxygen, ventilators, medicines and other necessary items. Making all necessary arrangements, the community health centres (CHCs) and primary health centres (PHCs) should be developed into Covid care centres so that Covid patients can receive immediate treatment in their area. Increasing Covid testing in both urban and rural areas, public awareness should also be increased to ensure that every eligible person is vaccinated, said Rawat. Replying to this, the chief medical officer Dr Bhagirathi Joshi informed the CM that in Nainital district, Covid testing and vaccination are being undertaken block and village-wise according to a roster. The district is ready to tackle the third wave of Covid-19 and has adequate oxygen, oxygen cylinders and other items in all hospitals in the district. On asking about the status of the Jamrani dam project, Rawat was informed by Kumaon commissioner Arvind Singh Hyanki said that regular meetings are being held with the villagers. Land in the Sitarganj jail campus in Udham Singh Nagar has been identified to rehabilitate those living in the project’s submergence area. The villagers were shown the land but they disagreed to resettle there due to water-logging. Talks are being held regularly with the villagers and land is being sought for them, he added.
Cabinet ministers Subodh Uniyal, Banshidhar Bhagat, MP Ajay Bhatt, district Panchayat head Bela Tolia, MLAs Navin Dumka, Sanjeev Arya, Ram Singh Keda and others were also present on the occasion.
