Stung by the resignation threat given by the senior cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat the ruling BJP has seemed to have managed the crisis. Harak’s anger has reportedly subsided after the state government accepted his demand for Kotdwar medical college. However he has remained underground since yesterday night and has not given any statement in this context.
Rawat shocked his ministerial colleagues and chief minister Puskhar Singh Dhami when he stormed out of the meeting of the state cabinet on Friday evening. He reportedly got irked at the non listing of the issue of Kotdwar medical college in the cabinet meeting and entered into a heated debate with the health minister Dhan Singh Rawat. The sulking Harak Singh Rawat switched off his phone and went to an undisclosed place after trooping out of the cabinet on late Friday night. The dramatic exit of Rawat from cabinet gave credence to the speculation that the mercurial minister and his close confidante Raipur MLA Umesh Sharma Kau are leaving BJP. On Saturday morning Kau scotched off the rumors and said that he is with the party and said that Harak wants to set up a medical college in his constituency. Later in the day the president of the Uttarakhand BJP Madan Kaushik claimed that the issue of the Kotdwar medical college has been solved and Harak Singh Rawat is now not angry. He claimed that the party is united. The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also held telephonic talk with Harak Singh Rawat and assured him that the issues raised by him would be looked into. He said that there is no reason for the worry and the issue has been settled in the family.
The health minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that a sum of Rs 5 crore has been approved for Kotdwar medical college.
