Rishikesh prepares to ban single- use plastic from July 1

The Municipal Corporation of Rishikesh (MCR) has completed its preparations to impose a complete ban on single use plastic.Rishikesh Mayor Anita Mamgai and officials of the municipal corporation held a meeting with the traders and appealed them to not to use plastic measuring below 75 microns.

Following the orders issued by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, orders have been issued the MCR to completely ban single-use plastic. There will be a complete ban on items made of plastic less than 75 microns in MCR area from July 1. 

Rishikesh municipal commissioner Girish Gunwant said that from July 1, there will be a complete ban on things made of plastic measuring less than the 75 microns in the area under the jurisdiction of the municipal corporation of Rishikesh. If any merchant, shopkeeper or small trader is found storing, using or distributing the prohibited polythene or single use plastic, then strict action will be taken against him or her. Vyapar Mandal of Rishikesh also agreed and stated that they will fully cooperate in the efforts to stop plastic use.
