Taking exception to what it termed a deliberate campaign by the BJP leaders against former chief minister Harish Rawat, the Uttarakhand Congress submitted a complaint to the director general of police Ashok Kumar. On Tuesday a delegation led by the vice president (organisation/ administration) Mathura Dutt Joshi and former MLA of Kedarnath Manoj Rawat met the DGP Ashok Kumar. The delegation submitted a complaint and demanded that action should be initiated on the BJP leaders for undertaking a relentless misinformation campaign against former CM Harish Rawat.
In the complaint the Congress said that in the run up of the recently held assembly elections, a person gave statement about Muslim university after which BJP leaders assoiciated the name of Harish Rawat with Muslim university. The delegation said that Rawat had given no statement regarding the Muslim university but a false campaign was launched by the BJP and its leaders against Rawat which resulted in a big political damage to him. In the complaint the Congress leaders said that the BJP leaders and office bearers circulated a morphed picture of Harish Rawat along with Muslim university statement on the social media. The Congress leaders said that on February 3, 2022 a delegation of Congress lodged a complaint with the election commission on the issue after which the commission issued a notice to the BJP leaders concerned. Similarly two workers of Congress party had registered a police complaint but no action has so far been taken against the culprits. The Congress leaders demanded that the police should register case against the BJP leaders who mischievously circulated the statement of Muslim university with morphed picture of Harish Rawat. The delegation also submitted evidence of the statements, tweets and clippings to the police. The general secretary organisation Vijay Saraswat, vice president Puran Singh Rawat, Surendra Kumar, Garima Dasauni and others were present on the occasion.
