PIONEEREDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

Cabinet minister Dhan Singh Rawat has claimed that the Garhwal Commissioner and Inspector General (IG) police, Garhwal range will sit at least three days in a week in their offices in Pauri. Interacting with the media persons after the State level felicitation programme on Teachers’ Day earlier on Friday, Rawat said that before the creation of the State, the commissioner and IG used to be stationed permanently in Pauri but after the State was created, both these officers visit the commissionerate less frequently.

He said that the Kumaon commissioner is stationed permanently in Nainital. Rawat said that he and cabinet colleague Satpal Maharaj and the Pauri MLA have requested the CM that the commissioner and IG should remain in Pauri for at least three days in a week. He said that the CM has accepted the demand and has issued an order in this regard.

The claim of the minister assumes significance in the wake of the recent threat of an agitation on the issue of absence of Garhwal commissioner from Pauri by the Congress leader Harak Singh Rawat.  He said that the incumbent Garhwal commissioner also holds the charge of the secretary to the CM and other departments as well due which rarely visits the Pauri commissionerate.
