Makar Sankranti celebrated with fervour in U’khand

The festival of Makar Sankranti was celebrated with religious fervour in the State on Wednesday. This occasion holds significant importance within the Hindu faith, with traditional celebrations including the preparation of Khichdi. Makar Sankranti signifies the sun’s transition into a new direction, carrying substantial cultural and religious relevance. On the said day, many temples in the city saw an influx of devotees seeking blessings, while others participated in various religious activities. Additionally, many residents were observed distributing grains and food to beggars.
One resident, Vinay Chaddha, shared that he celebrated Makar Sankranti by visiting a temple early in the morning where he distributed Prasad of Til Laddu to the devotees. Further, he donated grains and other food items to the beggars.
“In the Hindu religion, the Makar Sankranti festival plays a very important role. On this day, people in our community find it blissful to donate food grains and other items. Similarly, I celebrated this occasion by donating these items and also organised a Hawan at my residence for the peace and welfare of my family,” said another resident, Yashika Verma.
Many other residents were observed celebrating this festival with great enthusiasm. Numerous temples hosted programmes of Bhajan and Kirtan to make the occasion even more auspicious.
Joshi extends wishes on Makar Sankranti
DEHRADUN: Cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi his warm wishes to all for Makar Sankranti and Uttarayan, highlighting that these celebrations reflect our rich cultural heritage and promote social unity. This statement was made while the officials of the Kumaon Council met him at his official residence on Wednesday, in observance of Makar Sankranti and the Ghughutiya festival (Uttarayan festival). The council officials presented the Cabinet minister with a garland made of Ghughutiya and shared their greetings for Makar Sankranti, Ghughutiya and the Uttarayan festival.
In expressing his wishes to everyone, Joshi emphasised that such festivals enhance brotherhood, harmony and folk culture within society.
