Safety audit of school buildings, a knee jerk reaction: Dhasmana

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

The Pradesh Congress Committee vice president Suryakant Dhasmana has termed the decision of the State government to undertake a safety audit of the school buildings as a knee jerk reaction.

He said that the safety audit decision was taken after the tragic accident in Rajasthan where the building of a school collapsed resulting in the death of students.

The Congress leader claimed that the number of schools with dilapidated school buildings in the State is in thousands. He said that instead of repairing and reconstructing such buildings the Education department of the State is only engaged in correspondence on the issue.

He said that more than 650 primary school buildings and 900 secondary school buildings are in dilapidated condition. During monsoon there is a great threat to the students studying in dilapidated school buildings  and warn that an accident like Piplodi village of Jhalawar in Rajasthan can happen anytime in Uttarakhand.

Dhasmana said that the State government is aware of the dilapidated school buildings but instead of repairing the school buildings the Education minister has come up with an ingenious plan to close down 1,400 schools of the State in the name of cluster schools.
