With five murders being committed in Dehradun district within a period of about two weeks, the Bharatiya Janata Party has stated that these crimes are unfortunate, adding that the guilty will be apprehended soon. MLA and BJP State spokesman Vinod Chamoli claimed that the stance of the State government is clear and stern- criminals will not be spared. He said that one should avoid the politics of allegations and counter-allegations while waiting patiently for the outcome of police action.

Interacting with the media at the BJP State headquarters here on Friday, Chamli expressed concern over recent serious crimes in Dehradun, claiming that every party worker is concerned and disturbed by these. “We stand with the families of the victims and are committed to make the government ensure justice. We trust that those guilty of such crimes will face justice. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami too has clarified that the guilty should be brought to justice irrespective of wherever they are hiding,” Chamoli said.

He claimed that the BJP government is working on its policy of zero tolerance for crime. All the accused in past crimes have been sent to jail. Some have been sentenced by the court while others are awaiting their sentence. “Those who have tried to challenge the law and order of the State so far have been taught a tough lesson. The impartial, swift and stern action initiated after criminal incidents so far have ensured the public’s faith in the government. The BJP and the government have taken serious cognisance of recent incidents and the killers will soon be caught. Steps will also be taken to ensure that such serious crimes are not repeated,” he said.

Chamoli requested the opposition to desist from playing politics at this time, adding that all sides must respond to such incidents with responsibility and sensitivity.
