A delegation of Uttarakhand Congress met the governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh on Thursday and requested him to take cognisance of the alleged irregularities in allotment of lands in George Everest Estate, Mussoorie and Bairagi camp in Haridwar.

The Congress leaders told the governor that 172 acres of government land of George Everest Estate valued at Rs 30,000 crore was given on lease at a sum of Rs one crore per year to a company owned by Ramdev aide Acharya Balkrishna.

They alleged that the tender process was changed at last minute to benefit a particular company. The company has sealed 200 year old routes in the land and is exorbitantly charging the tourists, they claimed.

The Congress also claimed that the government is now planning to hand over the operation of Bairagi Camp in Haridwar to the same individual’s company.

The Congress demanded that the lease deed of the land in George Everest Estate should be cancelled and the case should be probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) under the monitoring of a sitting judge of the High Court. The party leaders also demanded that the process of tender of the Bairagi Camp should also be stopped.

The delegation was led by former chief minister Harish Rawat and former Pradesh Congress Committee president Pritam Singh. The PCC vice president Surendra Agarwal, former Mahanagar president Lal Chand Sharma, Godavari Thapli, former MLAs Manoj Rawat, Rajkumar, chief spokesperson Garima Dasauni and others were also present.
