The Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) has arrested an arms and drugs smuggler from Bazpur in Udham Singh Nagar district on Tuesday. The accused, identified as Ishanpreet Singh, is a resident of Amritsar in Punjab and was wanted in several cases related to illegal weapons and drug trafficking. Investigators found that weapons and drugs were supplied to him from Pakistan through drones.
A joint team of the Uttarakhand STF, Punjab Police’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and Udham Singh Nagar police carried out a raid in the Keshavnagar area of Bazpur and arrested the accused. Police said he had been hiding in Uttarakhand for some time to evade arrest.
According to officials, several cases under the NDPS Act and Arms Act are registered against Singh in Punjab. Last month, he escaped during a search operation conducted by the Punjab police and BSF at his house in Amritsar. During that raid, police recovered a large quantity of illegal weapons and narcotics from his residence.
Upon receiving information that he was hiding in Bazpur, security agencies launched a joint operation and arrested him.
After questioning, the accused was handed over to the Punjab police for further legal action. Police are now investigating his network and possible links with other smugglers.
