A woman was seriously injured in a suspected tiger attack close to her house in the Kota Range of the Ramnagar Forest Division area on Tuesday. The Forest officials said that the 40-year-old Uma Devi, a resident of Chopra village, had gone to collect water from a nearby irrigation channel along with her neighbours, Geeta Devi and Ganga Devi, when the big cat pounced upon her. They however, could not confirm whether the animal was a tiger or a leopard. “We are trying to ascertain,” said a senior Forest officer.
Her two companions raised an alarm and somehow managed to rescue Uma Devi from the animal’s grip. She was immediately rushed to Ramnagar Hospital, where her condition remains critical.
The SDO, Ankit Badola visited the hospital to inquire about her condition. He said that compensation would be provided to the injured woman based on the medical report submitted by the doctors.
He further stated that camera traps and a cage would be installed at the attack site, while patrolling in the area has already been intensified. “Efforts are underway to capture the animal at the earliest,” he added.
