Basantotsav in Doon to feature cultural presentations from seven States

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
A cultural programme featuring artists from seven States will be held in Dehradun on March 27 as part of Basantotsav 2026, bringing together a range of folk dance and musical traditions on a single stage.
Artists from Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are slated to participate in the event. Organisers said that the performances will showcase regional cultural forms that are usually seen only during local festivals in their respective States, allowing residents to experience them in one programme.
Addressing the media here on Monday, programme coordinator Dr KP Joshi and cultural activist Prem Hindwan said that the event will feature traditional presentations including Haryana’s Phag dance, Punjab’s Bhangra, Kashmir’s Rouf, Rajasthan’s Bhavai, Uttar Pradesh’s Mayur dance and Garhwal’s Pandav (Paunra) dance. They said that each performance has been selected to reflect seasonal and community traditions associated with the arrival of spring.
Joshi said that such programmes help introduce younger audiences to folk traditions that are gradually becoming less visible in urban spaces. He added that cultural platforms like Basantotsav also provide opportunities for local artists to interact with performers from other states.
The programme will be organised at Social Baluni Public School on Haridwar Bypass Road. Entry will remain free for the public.
According to the organisers, the event is expected to attract students, families and cultural groups from across the city. Apart from performances, the programme is expected to serve as a platform for cultural exchange among participating artists while marking the spring season through traditional music and dance presentations.
